Most commonly, Tulipwood is the yellowish greenish wood yielded from the tuliptree, found on
the Eastern side of North America and also in some parts of China. In the United States, it is
commonly known as tulip poplar or yellow poplar, even though the tree is not related to the
poplars. In fact, the reference to poplar is a result of the tree's height, which can exceed 100
feet. The wood is very light, but very strong and is used in many applications, including
furniture, joinery and moldings.
EBBENHOUT
écht zwart Ebbenhout bestaat alleen in sprookjes - vaak zit er een grijs veegje in.
Toch is de kleur van het hout echt niet verkeerd.
Ebben lijkt wel op het Zuid-Aziatische Coromandel en is daar zelfs aan verwant. Ebben is in het
algemeen iets donkerder dan Coromandel.  Bovendien heeft Coromandel vaak wat bruine vegen.
Ebben is goed te bewerken en zeer glad af te werken. Het mooiste resultaat wordt verkregen
indien het in de was wordt gezet. Het is zeer hard, heeft een korte draad en splintert bijna niet.
Ebben wordt gebruikt voor ornamentjes, juwelenkistjes, biljartkeuen en ook wel voor biezen in
vloeren.
Ebben komt uit kleine boompjes en is daarom alleen in kleine afmetingen beschikbaar.
